Disrupt - Day 27

March 27 - Pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. (Matthew 9:38)

We’ve talked a lot about praying God’s will. Here’s an example when Jesus instructed his followers on exactly what to pray. I want you to notice 3 moments in this simple sentence.

First, “earnestly.” There’s a certain diligence required in our prayer when we intercede for kingdom items where the spiritual battle occurs.

Second, “To send out laborers.” God loves his metaphors, and believers are described in many ways (ambassadors, followers, proclaimers, etc.), and here is another one: sentlaborers. Immediately we should reflectively ask, “Am I working the harvest field?” We know it’s God’s will to pray for harvest laborers, and it’s sort of hypocritical to ask God to send workers when we don’t want to work ourselves. (We shouldn’t take God’s grace and keep it to ourselves!)

Third, “Lord of the harvest” and “his harvest.” Who is the owner of this harvest? God. Not you or me; we are workers in his farmland. He gets the glory. And we can trust the results to his good and perfect plans; after all, it’s his harvest.

Prayer Prompt: Lord, I earnestly plead that you would raise up more workers! The harvest is ready, people are lost, and they need to know you! Please fill me today with courage and clarity to be a laborer in your harvest.

“If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to hell over our dead bodies… and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for.” -Charles Spurgeon
