Disrupt - Day 28
March 28 - Daniel got down on his knees three times a day and prayed. (Daniel 6:10)
Posture matters in prayer.
First of all, the posture of our heart matters. We must pray with humility and patience because in prayer we align ourselves with God’s plans and His schedule. We must pray with thankfulness and adoration because He is worthy of our worship. We must pray with faith because he honors our childlike trust in Him. So our unseen posture is an essential ingredient in prayer.
But also, our physical posture contributes to our prayer life. When Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den, he was likely in his 80s which means He had walked with God for many decades. What can we learn from his example? He understood the value of physically kneeling when he prayed.
Our physical posture of getting on the ground conveys something profound…to God, but mostly to our flesh. It signifies surrender. It’s the visible attitude of submission and need. Creation before Creator.
Do we need to get on the ground every time we pray? No. But when was the last time you prayed on your knees?
Try it today! You might be surprised in what you discover.
Prayer Prompt: Lord, I kneel before you today to express my absolute surrender to you. You are my God, and I am yours. Please have your way, and strengthen me to deny self and join you in your good and perfect work.
“Prayer is the opening of the heart to God.” -Richard Baxter
